From Whence We Came - Honolulu Lodge Heritage Celebration

The brethren of Honolulu Lodge celebrated our Past Masters and our history this week with our first annual Honolulu Lodge Heritage Celebration.  In the Lodge Room, several notable artifacts of our Lodge History were on display, an overview of the Lodge’s history was given, and several Past Masters discussed their tenure as Master of Honolulu Lodge.  Afterwards, the brethren and their ladies were treated to an exceptional dinner in the banquet hall where lively discussion over a family-style feast further exemplified the camaraderie that our brothers share.

Lodge Room display
The display of Lodge history included our request for charter in 1895, announcements in the local papers of the formation of Pacific Lodge #822, and correspondence from Judge Henry Cooper (the acting Grand Master Depute, Grand Lodge of Scotland, and first Master of Pacific Lodge #822) notifying us of his intent to raise the lodge on Maui.

California charter, map, anniversary
In 1910, Pacific Lodge #822 took charter from the Grand Lodge of California. On the left, the Charter of Honolulu Lodge #409, on the right, a proclamation of the 75th anniversary of our charter. The map at center is a depiction of Honolulu in 1915, and displays the previous location of the Temple (at Hotel and Alakea Street) in downtown Honolulu.

Constitution and Bylaws of Pacific Lodge #822 (l) and the Grand Lodge of Scotland (r)
Among the artifacts presented included the Constitution and Bylaws of Pacific Lodge #822 (left) from 1904, which indicate that a petition for degrees cost $60 (over $1400 in 2013 dollars), and our copy of the Constitution of the Grand Lodge of Scotland.

Banquet hall preparation
Senior Warden Mark L. and Tyler Jim Humble check the final preparation to the Banquet Hall while MWB Monty Glover, PGM (2011), PM (2005) documents the impressive formal place settings.

Full crowd
The brethren and their guests enjoyed a family style dinner of caesar salad, marinated chicken breast, mashed potatoes, garlic green beans and lively conversation.
